A walk through history
The Promenade des Anglais dates back to the early 19th century when wealthy English visitors began spending winters in Nice to escape the colder climate back home. At the time, the city was already becoming a fashionable destination, and the growing British community financed the construction of a seaside walkway in 1822.
Its name, Promenade des Anglais, literally means “Walkway of the English” and remains a reminder of the city’s long-standing connection with British visitors. Over the years, the modest path evolved into the grand boulevard seen today, becoming one of France’s most recognisable landmarks.
Seven Kilometres of Mediterranean Beauty
The promenade stretches for approximately seven kilometres, running from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport in the west to the Quai des États-Unis near the Old Town.
Throughout the walk you’ll enjoy uninterrupted views across the dazzling Baie des Anges (Bay of Angels), where the Mediterranean changes colour throughout the day, from brilliant turquoise to deep sapphire blue.
